Preferred Equity is exactly that, equity. This option allows developers to contribute minimal equity in exchange for a share of profits. Typically this profit split is a 50/50 split. Developers can find themselves committing only 20% of the required equity, with the Preferred Equity partner picking up the other 80%. Preferred Equity investors are generally well educated in property development and understand the process and risks involved.
